"Gone With the Wind" star Olivia de Havilland has just turned 104. The two-time Academy Award winner, who celebrated her birthday on Wednesday, is believed to be the last surviving cast member from the 1939 hit film and says she is enjoying getting older.
"How do I feel about older age? Crazy about it! Wouldn’t trade it for anything!" she previously said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, adding that she was "relishing" the idea of getting on in years.
De Havilland is best known for her role as Melanie Wilkes in "Gone With the Wind," and, although the performance earned her an Academy Award nomination, her roles in 1946′s "To Each His Own" and 1949's "The Heiress" were what bagged her two Academy Awards, according to WSB-TV.
Adding to her accomplishments, in 2017 de Havilland was named a dame by Great Britain.
In a statement to People at the time, the Hollywood icon said she was "extremely proud that the Queen has appointed me a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire."
HBO Max recently temporarily removed "Gone With the Wind" from its streaming library in order to add historical context to the 1939 film long criticized for romanticizing slavery and the Civil War-era South. The move came amid protests in the wake of George Floyd's death, which forced entertainment companies to grapple with the appropriateness of both current and past productions. The film has since returned to HBO.
