The first trailer for "Ocean's 8," the new reboot of the "Ocean's" heist movie franchise that features women at the helm this time, went public Tuesday.
The franchise, started by George Clooney with “Ocean’s Eleven,” centered around Danny Ocean and a group of accomplices who helped him pull off an impossible heist. Each sequel saw the group grow by one person, hence the titles “Ocean’s Twelve” and Ocean’s Thirteen.”
Although the reboot is a sequel, only eight people are involved in the group led by Danny’s sister Debbie who plans to take a $150 million necklace from the neck of a socialite during the annual Met Gala.
Sandra Bullock stars as Debbie Ocean, who has recently been released from jail. Her accomplices include Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina, Sarah Paulson, and Helena Bonham Carter. Anne Hathaway plays the necklace owner, and Matt Damon, Richard Armitage, and James Corden also star.
The movie, which releases June 8, was written by Gary Ross and Olivia Milch (“Dude”), and Ross (“Hunger Games”) directs. It comes 11 years after “Ocean's Thirteen,” and no further sequels are yet planned.
