President Barack Obama's tan suit worn during Thursday's foreign policy briefing has become the talk of the nation, with journalists from The New York Times to CNN sounding off on the beige distraction.
As puns and other cheesy jokes exploded on Twitter at Obama's expense, one tweet in particular seemed to sum up the day.

By Friday, after several high-profile news outlets had documented the outsized reaction, some expressed exasperation at the modern media and the lack of seriousness driven by an increasingly flighty Twitter.
Some outlets, like
The Washington Post, sought to contextualize the tan suit, drudging up pictures of past presidents in tan suits, as well as a few quotes from an old interview Obama did with Vanity Fair.
"You'll see I wear only gray or blue suits," Obama said of his presidential fashion choices in the 2012 interview. "I'm trying to pare down decisions. I don't want to make decisions about what I’m eating or wearing. Because I have too many other decisions to make."
The Post, Time, New York magazine, and others sought to defend the taupe — getting into things like its seasonality or the formality of the occasion — but as it goes with nearly all questionable news stories arising from Twitter, suit-gate is best explained by the social medium itself.
