President Barack Obama will return 5 percent of his salary to the Treasury as a solidarity measure to support the federal workers who have been furloughed because of the sequester, the White House announced Wednesday, but not everyone thinks the move is commendable.
"The president has decided that to share in the sacrifice being made by public servants across the federal government that are affected by the sequester, he will contribute a portion of his salary back to the Treasury," a White House official said, according to the
New York Times.
Obama will give up about $1,700 a month from his $400,000 yearly salary for a total of about $20,000.
