Obama's Call to Jason Collins Irks Supporters of Slain Sniper Chris Kyle

By    |   Tuesday, 30 Apr 2013 11:07 AM

President Barack Obama is under fire on Twitter for personally calling NBA player Jason Collins, who came out as gay on the cover of Sports Illustrated on Monday, to express his support, but continuing to "ignore" Chris Kyle, the heroic U.S. sniper who was killed in February.

Conservatives have been riding Obama since February, when former Navy SEAL Kyle was fatally shot along with another man at a Texas gun range.

They claim Obama has yet to officially acknowledge Kyle's death
or express sympathy to his family, but has made a publicity spectacle out of other things, like singer Whitney Houston's death last year. After Houston died of a drug overdose, the president said his "thoughts and prayers are with [Houston's] family, especially her daughter," and also called her death a "tragedy."

Similarly, when the Philadelphia Eagles signed convicted dog fighter Michael Vick in 2010, Obama reportedly personally called the team's owner to congratulate him on giving Vick a second chance.

Yet, critics say he continues to "ignore" Kyle's death, as well as his mishandling of the terror attacks in Benghazi that left four Americans dead in September, and other wounded warriors. So Obama's acknowledgment of Collins' coming out is especially irksome.
