A nurse in Russia is facing disciplinary measures after treating male coronavirus patients while wearing nothing but "lingerie" underneath her transparent personal protective equipment.
The unidentified medic, who is in her 20s, told higher-ups at the hospital in Tula that she was "too hot" to wear her uniform under the vinyl gown and insisted she was not aware that it was see-through, The Sun reported.
There were no complaints about her getup, just "some embarrassment," one patient alleged, but it did not stop hospital chiefs from punishing the nurse for "non-compliance with the requirements for medical clothing."
The regional health ministry confirmed that "a disciplinary sanction was applied to the nurse of the infectious diseases department who violated (uniform) requirements."
It was initially said the woman was wearing "lingerie" beneath her gown but bosses later said it looked as if she was wearing a "swimming suit."
In Russia, there are 308,705 reported coronavirus infections as of Wednesday, making it the country with the second-highest number of cases, according to The Moscow Times. Dr Alexander Myasnikov, the head of Russia's COVID-19 monitoring center, addressed the issue earlier this week.
"The infection will anyway take its toll ... We will anyway all get sick," he said. "Those who were supposed to die will die."
