Sarah Paulson will play Nurse Ratched in the Netflix prequel to "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."
The upcoming two-season, 18 episode series will be spearheaded by top TV producer Ryan Murphy of "American Horror Story," The Hollywood Reporter noted.
He will work alongside executive producer Michael Douglas, who was responsible for producing the original Oscar-winning film adaption in 1975.
Production is expected to kick off next year, and Murphy will be responsible for directing the first episode that was written by recent film school graduate Evan Romansky, according to USA Today.
The series is set in 1947 and follows nurse Ratched's murderous transformation into villainous monster in the healthcare system.
The character was first introduced to audiences in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and was played by Louise Fletcher, who won an academy award for Best Actress.
While Fletcher may have left big shoes to fill, Paulson has deemed herself worthy of the role after securing an Emmy for her performance in Murphy's "The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story."
The actress, who is currently starring in the latest edition of Murphy's "American Horror Story" anthology, has nothing but praise for the producer.
"Working with Ryan was the first time I felt really seen by someone in a position of power," she said about her experience on the set of "American Horror Story," according to The Guardian.
"Ryan Murphy knows himself well enough, he knows what he likes and he doesn't care what anyone else does."
Paulson added that "to have had that in my life only makes me want to do that more going forward, and for others to be able to have that as well."
