A pig hitched a ride home in a North Ridgeville, Ohio, police car after following a man home, but if you were hoping to crack a joke about the ironic situation don't bother, the police already beat you to the punch.
"We will mention the irony of the pig in a police car now so that anyone that thinks they’re funny is actually unoriginal and trying too hard," the North Ridgeville Police Department said in a post to Facebook after being called out to assist an unidentified man who was being incessantly trailed by the swine early Saturday morning.
The man was making his way home on Center Ridge from the Train Station in Elyria at 5:26 a.m. when he noticed the pig following him and called the cops, who at first thought he had drank too much and was hallucinating.
However, upon arrival police said they found a "very sober male" unable to shake off his new swine companion.
Police intervened and the pig was loaded into an officer's cruiser and eventually returned to its rightful owner.
A police department spokesperson later told CBS News the pig's name was Zoey.
The idea of a pet pig is still largely considered a foreign concept but researchers are out to prove that the animal may be as intelligent as dogs, or at least be smarter and have more emotions than people think.
Bruce Friedrich of Farm Sanctuary, who was leading one such research project, explained that people "don't know farm animals the way they know dogs or cats."
