A North Carolina woman who's a single mother of four young children came forward Monday as one of three winners of the $564 million Powerball jackpot.
Marie Holmes, a 26-year-old who lives in a trailer in Shallotte, North Carolina, is one of three winners of the jackpot, which was
drawn Feb. 11, The Associated Press reported.
A winner in Puerto Rico has elected to remain anonymous and the third winner, in Texas, hasn’t come forward yet.
Holmes appeared at a news conference this week with her lawyer and financial adviser. She said she will use the money to provide for her children, including one who has cerebral palsy.
"This is going to make a huge difference for them,"
Holmes said, according to ABC News. "They are going to be able to go to school and not worry about paying for it. They are going to live a comfortable life without struggling."
Holmes, who elected to take a $127 million lump sum payment, also plans to travel and donate money to her church. She hopes to continue her education in nursing.
The jackpot was the third-largest in Powerball history, and the fifth largest lottery prize ever in the U.S.
