By    |   Monday, 03 November 2014 10:51 AM EST

A patient who arrived in the United States last week from Liberia was being monitored and tested in North Carolina for Ebola, health authorities said on Sunday.

"The individual did not have any symptoms upon arrival," Reuters reported the state's Department of Health and Human Services as saying in a statement.

There was no indication from health officialsd of the location in the state, whether the patient was male or female, or a healthcare worker, or if the patient was quarantined.

The person had developed a fever on Nov. 2, a day after arriving in North Carolina but does not have any additional symptoms, and also had no known exposure to Ebola in Liberia, the department said.

The patient will be evaluated for possible causes of fever, including testing for Ebola, the statement said.
