Nitro the police dog has gone viral with a workout video in which he does pushups with his fellow officers.
K-9 officer Nitro’s seven-second video has been viewed more than 609,000 times since being posted on Saturday.
The police department made the video to show how people can get into a nightly “9 p.m. routine” of taking valuables out of their cars at night and locking them up before going to bed to prevent theft, AL.com reported.
“Unlocked vehicle thefts are 100 percent preventable,” Cpl. Josh Coleman, the department's social media coordinator, told AL.com.
The routine was started by the Pasco County, Florida, sheriff’s department, and has been successful in reducing unlocked vehicle thefts there, Coleman said.
The video was conceptualized by Sgt. Greg Bobo, who supervises the K-9 unit at Gulf Shores.
“He had a great time working on this,” Coleman said, AL.com reported.
Communications Officer Natalie Wilson shot the video and Nitro’s handler, officer Scott Hubbard, instructed him off-camera during the shoot.
Coleman told AL.com other members of the K-9 unit are likely to be featured in future videos due to the popularity of this one.
Nitro is a 2-year-old Dutch Shepherd and joined the Gulf Shores K-9 unit in February.
Twitter users gushed over Nitro and his antics.
