Suspected Parkland school shooter Nikolas Cruz was spotted laughing in prison numerous times just days after he allegedly shot and killed 17 students and staff and wounded numerous others.
Cruz is being housed in protective custody in a single man cell in the infirmary of Broward County Jail, WFTS-TV reported. Observational reports from the days after the shooting described Cruz as "cooperative" and "coherent," "restless" and times and "deep in thought," the station noted.
It was also reported that Cruz was quiet at times during the days of reporting and that he sometimes had a "blank stare," WFTS reported. Six days after Cruz was arrested for the shooting, he laughed during and after a professional visit and was observed smiling and giggling while speaking to his attorneys, according to the observations.
It was not known whether Cruz received any medications during the time he was in jail. He was reported to have a "family visit" on Feb. 24 and asked jail staff to read the Bible the same day. The alleged shooter is on suicide watch at the jail, Yahoo! News reported.
Cruz has a history of emotional and behavioral disorders and police were called 39 times about his behaviors over several years, according to Newsweek.
Florida prosecutors opened the grand jury hearing Tuesday. On Wednesday, he was indicted on 34 counts of premeditated murder and attempted murder, CNN reported.
Students who survived the Parkland shooting are seeking to ban AR-15s like the one Cruz used in the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, NBC News reported.
Some who were injured in the attack are expected to file lawsuits in the next few days, including Anthony Borges who was shot 5 times, NBC News reported.
