Nicki Minaj appeared to volunteer to pay for college tuition for some of her fans during a Twitter conversation Saturday night, and for one Ball State University student, the offer was too good to pass up.
Kyle Walsh, a Ball State freshman, was one of several young fans who joined in the Twitter conversation with chart-topping rapper and actress when she tweeted about an online contest to give a fan the chance to join her at the upcoming Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas or hang with her in the studio, the Indianapolis Star reported.
During the Twitter chat, one fan asked if Minaj would pay for their tuition.
Minaj responded she would consider it if the student had straight A's.
Those were ideal requirements for Walsh, who had earned straight A's in subjects such as general chemistry, general physics, and inquiries in the ancient world, reported the Indianapolis Star.
Walsh, whose Twitter handle reads @KahlDelMinaj, fired off the grades in a Twitter post to the entertainer.
Minaj responded directly to Walsh.
"She is also incredibly smart," Walsh told the Indianapolis Star. "She really understands how this world works and just how important education is to being successful. So many times I have thought of her when wanting to give up and having to struggle through my academics, and her words and actions have continuously inspired me to achieve success. For that alone, I am forever indebted. And as far as her offer to provide monetary support to me personally, I truly cannot put into words just how much gratitude I have!"
According to Billboard magazine, Minaj agreed to pay one $3,000 bill before other requests started rolling in from $500 to $1,069.
The Daily Beast reported that it appeared Minaj doled out tens of thousands of dollars to more than a dozen fans to help with tuition, books, and loans. She even suggested she may do the contest against in a couple months.
