Rock band Nickelback canceled its shows this past weekend, and has now officially nixed the remainder of its North American tour after lead vocalist Chad Kroeger was diagnosed with an operable cyst on his voice box.
"I am sorry I have to interrupt the party this summer and I am definitely not thrilled with the prospect of being silent for many weeks to come when I could be out there playing for our fans,"
Kroeger said in a statement on the band's official website.
"I am relying on my doctor and his team to help get my voice back in good form as quickly as possible," he added.
Kroeger is scheduled to undergo surgery in three weeks, and will require additional time to recover. The band plans to pick its 2015 "No Fixed Address" tour for the on its European leg, which begins Sept. 30 in Helsinki, Finland. The band hopes to then return to the U.S. in 2016.
In addition to Kroeger's statement and a promise to refund North American ticket holders, the band also released a video expressing their regret for the canceled tour.
