Nick Cannon had a cryptic message for his social media followers in wake of the uproar that arose over the anti-Semitic comments he made recently. Taking to Twitter on Friday, he wrote of the regret he was feeling, then ended off with a remark about leaving Earth.

"I hurt an entire community and it pained me to my core, I thought it couldn’t get any worse," Cannon tweeted. "Then I watched my own community turn on me and call me a sell-out for apologizing. Goodnight. Enjoy Earth."

In a second Tweet, Cannon added: "Y’all can have this planet. I’m out!"

The posts come after Cannon announced that he was stepping away from his radio show, "Nick Cannon Mornings," for an indefinite period of time amid the anti-Semitism controversy that led to him being dropped by ViacomCBS. At issue were remarks he made in a podcast last month concerning the unsubstantiated claim often asserted by hate groups that Jews control the music industry and the media.

In a statement released Tuesday, ViacomCBS said it condemned "bigotry of any kind" and denounced all forms of anti-Semitism.

"While we support ongoing education and dialogue in the fight against bigotry, we are deeply troubled that Nick has failed to acknowledge or apologize for perpetuating anti-Semitism, and we are terminating our relationship with him," the statement added.

The following day Cannon issued an apology, stating that his comments "reinforced the worst stereotypes of a proud and magnificent people and I feel ashamed of the uninformed and naive place that these words came from."

Fox News has since announced that Cannon would remain host and executive producer of the music reality series "The Masked Singer," one of its most-watched shows. The network said in a statement that, while it condemned all forms of hate and bigotry, it believed Cannon's apology was sincere.
