Because of the force of the water, it's rare for the Falls to freeze, even if the temperature is below freezing.

Along with the stunning sights at Niagara Falls, the near-record low temperatures have brought the cancellation of thousands of flights as well as school and government office closures.
Meteorologist Brian Hurley told The Independent that a cold front from the Great Plains to the Atlantic Coast has put temperatures at about 30 degrees below the normal highs around 50 degrees at this time.
Kevin Roth of the Weather Channel said that much of the country will return to
average temperatures over the next week, according to NBC News.
