NFL great LaDainian Tomlinson will star in the new film, “God Bless the Broken Road,” which is based on a country song originally recorded by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
LaDainian Tomlinson, an NFL Network analyst and former star running back, will play a pastor in the new film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In Tomlinson’s feature-film acting debut, his character offers help to a mother, played by Lindsay Pulsipher, struggling to raise her daughter after losing her husband who died while fighting a war in Afghanistan. The film also features Arthur Cartwright, who plays a disabled war veteran.
“Amber’s dreams of an ideal life with her perfect family shatter when she loses her husband to the war. Suddenly, she is a single mother to her daughter Bree, and struggling to save their home from foreclosure,” the film’s Facebook page said. “As her life slowly spirals out of control, Amber almost loses everything she holds dear – including her faith.
“In the midst of her troubles she finds herself drawn to Cody, an up-and-coming race car driver, who challenges what little is left of the plans she has. Can she find the faith she needs to trust God to lead her down the broken road of her life?”
Along with Tomlinson, the film will include Jordin Sparks, Kim Delaney, Robin Givens and Madeline Carroll.
Tomlinson spent 11 years in the NFL, with his best years being with the San Diego Chargers, where he recorded eight consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons and was selected to the Pro Bowl five times in his nine seasons with the team, ESPN noted.
Tomlinson recently headlined in a group of first-year eligible finalists for the 2017 Pro Football Hall of Fame, according to USA Today.
The full list of 15 finalists was announced Tuesday night and it includes players such as former Philadelphia Eagles safety Brian Dawkins, Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor, wide receiver Terrell Owens, and quarterback Kurt Warner.
