Netflix’s 2018 programming budget of $13 billion tops all its rivals, putting the streaming giant's spending ahead of every other Hollywood film studio and television company, IGN reported.
Furthermore, subscribers will be treated to more projects in 2018 than any other rival can provide, with 82 feature films in a year.
For perspective, Warner Brothers has the biggest slate in Hollywood, and will send cinemas 23 titles this year while Disney, which is regarded as the most profitable studio, is releasing 10 titles.
Looking ahead, there are 700 new or exclusively licensed television shows being produced or procured by Netflix, which includes scripted dramas and comedies, documentaries, children’s shows, stand-up comedy specials and unscripted reality and talk shows, The Economist said.
By 2022, Netflix could have an annual spending budget of $22.5 billion, which is almost on par with the total spending of all U.S. cable companies and networks, according to forecasts by investment firm Goldman Sachs.
In the first quarter of 2018, Netflix added an additional 7.4 million new subscribers. The streaming giant has a subscriber base of over 125 million worldwide and about $14 billion in annual revenue, The Economist said.
In April, Netflix announced the sale of $1.9 billion of senior bonds to pay for more shows.
