Neil Patrick Harris reportedly cursed at a fan during a Broadway performance of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" on Saturday.
Harris, who plays a transgender East German punk rocker in the play, responded to a fan who yelled out "I love you, Neil" mid-performance,
according to the New York Post. Harris responded back in character, "I'm doing something up here, motherf—."

Harris' reply was met with "rapturous applause" from the audience.
A representative for Harris told GossipCop.com that Harris' response was not meant to be malicious. He responded in a way the character would have, and it was meant to be taken in jest.
"The response to the fan yelling was actually done in character — Neil as Hedwig, not as though Neil stopped the show to respond out of character," Harris' rep said.
The rep said the moment was mischaracterized in the media.
"When the fan initially yelled, 'I love you, Neil,' Neil (as Hedwig) then responded, 'Who's Neil? I’m not Neil,'" the rep said. "He then looked over at Yitzhak (played by Lena Hall) and said, 'Are you Neil? You better not be Neil.'
"It was all done in good fun, and fully in the context of the show," the rep added. "The audience went crazy and it really was a light-hearted moment, which is not being properly contextualized in any of these various posts."
Harris took to Twitter to say that he believed his remark was taken out of context.
Some of his fans responded positively to the explanation.
