He served in the Navy during World War II, so it’s no wonder that Harry Miller wanted to celebrate his 103rd birthday on the water. And the Coast Guard was happy to oblige.
The Coast Guard gave Miller a special tour of Miami and Miami Beach on one of its patrol boats on Monday, the day after his birthday.
“It’s an honor to do this for a veteran,” Coast Guard spokeswoman Lt. Traci Fiammetta told the
Miami Herald.
Miller was in the Navy from 1941 to 1945.
“I worked on a destroyer that went to the Mediterranean,” he told the Herald. “Later, I transferred to a repair ship. We spent seven months in Hawaii fixing ships that had been damaged by the Japanese.”
The New York City native never lost his taste for the sea. Miller has taken 76 cruises since 1976.
Miller, who lives in an assisted living community in Pompano Beach, Florida, says his secret to a long life is to “eat healthy, exercise and lie about your age.”
