The National Marbles Championship crowned two new winners this week at the 91st annual competition, held in Wildwood, New Jersey.

Forty-two contestants gathered at Ringer Stadium on Thursday to go head-to-head in Ringer, a game involving 13 target marbles placed inside a circle. Each competitor must try to knock each target outside of the bounds of the circle without letting the shooter marble out of the perimeter.

After all was said and done, Marilyn Fisher and Dominic Rudakevych – two 13-year-olds from Middletown, Maryland – were crowned champions.

"I was really determined because my brother won last year," Fisher told the Press of Atlantic City after her big win.

When asked what she likes most about marbles, she said, "All the skill involved. The accuracy you need. It’s just a really fun game not many people know about."

Rudakevych, who was competing in the National Marbles Championship for the fourth year in a row, had to face off against one of his best friends, Luke Gaffigan.

"It’s great," Rudakevych said of the game's appeal. "It teaches strategy, thinking, taking your time."

In addition to being crowned the king and queen of the National Marbles Championship, Rudakevych and Fisher were each awarded $2,000 college scholarships, watches, and trophies, the Press of Atlantic City noted.
