Reality TV star and veteran Nate Burrell, who appeared in the A&E docuseries "60 Days In," has died at age 33. Burrell was out in Allegan, Michigan, on Saturday night when he shot himself in public, his sister, Chelsey Walker, confirmed to TMZ.
Hours before his death, Burrell posted a lengthy suicide note to Facebook.
"This isn't an admission of guilt. I'm just tired, I've been through so much in my life, the pain of my situation now hurts more than I ever imagined. I can't keep going on," he wrote.
Burrell was married with a son on the way but hinted at problems in his relationship.
"I have dreamed of the day I get to raise my son, but that was taken away from me," he continued. "I can only imagine how bad this would all turn out, all of the legal crap that would ensue after this with custody and everything else. You win! You have promised for weeks, you will ruin my life and I had no idea who I was messing with. You are right, I didn't know who I was messing with. You told me you wished I still wanted to kill myself a few weeks ago, and that has sat in my heart since. This isn't a post to bash you but instead to lift you up."
Burrell served in the military as a Marine from 2006 to 2010 and completed two tours of Iraq. He was honorably discharged in 2013, according to Daily Mail. In 2014 he received his associate degree in criminal justice and law enforcement.
Burrell went on to appear in seasons three and four of "60 Days In," a reality TV show that sees several ordinary people volunteer to spend 60 days behind bars in Indiana's Clark County Jail without fellow inmates or staff knowing their true identities.
Walker said Burrell was proud to be part of the show.
"Nathan loved his country, loved his family and was a very caring guy," Walker explained. "He was just in a bad place. He was very proud of being on '60 Days In,' and he really cherished his time on that show."
