Police body cam footage of Nasim Aghdam taken the night before she shot people at YouTube headquarters April 3 was released Friday.
Mountain View police discovered Aghdam sleeping in her car while checking for stolen cars in a superstore parking lot where they are frequently left, ABC 7 reported. When her white Pontiac came up attached to a missing person’s report, officers got information from San Diego about Aghdam and then approached the vehicle to question her.
The officer in charge asked Aghdam if she was taking any medication or planning to hurt anyone, including herself, and she answered no to both questions, ABC 7 reported. Aghdam told the officer she left San Diego because she wasn’t getting along with her father and that she wasn’t planning on going back.
After police finished questioning her, they notified her father that she had been found and was all right, and did not want contact with him, ABC 7 reported.
Aghdam’s father reportedly called them back an hour later to tell them she was angry with YouTube for changes to the platform that negatively impacted the views and monetization of her animal rights and pro-vegan videos.
The police did not attempt to recontact Aghdam after her father’s statement, and hours later she shot and injured three people at YouTube's headquarters before killing herself.
The officers were not identified by Mountain View police, and public information officer Katie Nelson said the backup officer who questioned Aghdam had 20 years’ experience with the department, ABC 7 reported.
