MTV has cut ties with reality TV star Taylor Selfridge and canceled her "Teen Mom" special after past racially offensive tweets surfaced.
In her posts stemming back to 2012, Selfridge mocked racial diversity and claimed that black people "scare" her. In response, MTV terminated their relationship and pulled the plug on her and boyfriend Cory Wharton's special episode, "Teen Mom OG at Home: Cory & Taylor’s Baby Special," which was due to air on Tuesday.
"MTV strongly condemns systemic racism and stands with those raising their voices against injustice," a spokesperson told People
Among Selfridge's controversial tweets was a post in which she said: "We have to greet everyone at work but sometimes I won't greet the Black people because they scare me," according to Blast.
In another post, she wrote of her uncle dating an Asian. "Aunt Ping please make me sushi," she said.
Selfridge addressed her departure in a statement to her Instagram account, which has since been made private.
"As you guys know already our special didn't air tonight. I made the decision last week to not film the next season of Teen Mom OG with Cory for the benefit of myself and my daughter," she wrote, per People.
"I don't believe the reality tv lifestyle benefits me any further at this point in my life. With current events being what they are and reality tv being selective in who they apply rules to or what is considered acceptable behavior, I do not have any further respect."
