Stars and producers of the CBS sitcom "Mom" have chosen to donate $250,000 to Planned Parenthood instead of mounting a campaign on behalf of their show for the Emmy awards this year.

The money will be used to bring attention to the threat against Planned Parenthood funding by the Republican-backed American Health Care Act, according to Variety. The AHCA would strip funding from Planned Parenthood because of its abortion services and would prevent Medicaid patients from being covered for any Planned Parenthood services.

"Mom" star Allison Janney and co-creator/Executive Producer Chuck Lorre will appear on "CBS This Morning" to encourage others to donate to the organization using a special link created by the campaign. Both Janney and Lorre have been longtime supporters of Planned Parenthood and other women’s health initiatives.

According to Variety, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Los Angeles Sue Dunlap claimed Los Angeles county receives 2,000 calls a day from people wanting services and that birth control, cancer screenings, and STD testing and treatment will be out of reach for many without Planned Parenthood.

Dunlap said she was honored the team from “Mom” was helping Planned Parenthood get funding.

Planned Parenthood serves 2.5 million people each year, and more than half are in rural communities without adequate, affordable health care facilities, Variety said.

“It makes sense,” Janney said of the campaign, CBS News reported. “Our show is all about women and we don’t shy away from dealing with all issues that affect women and families.”

Janney won supporting comedy actress Emmys for “Mom” in 2014 and 2015.

Many Twitter fans supported the "Mom" producers' decision, but a few called for a boycott or pointed out the irony of a show about parenthood supporting an organization that, in part, prevents it.
