A mom at a Canadian medical clinic was recorded Sunday demanding a white, English-speaking doctor to treat her sick child and arguing with others in the clinic who told her she was being racist.
The woman asked repeatedly for a white doctor who was "not brown" and did not have an accent or "brown teeth," according to The Washington Post. She got upset when she was told that there were no white doctors working in the clinic until 4 p.m. and that she would have to wait until then or have her child seen by one of the doctors present.
Hitesh Bhardwaj shot the video of the woman’s tirade as he waited for his appointment in the clinic. The video later went viral on YouTube and now has over 650,000 views.
"I saw a doctor who was not white that did not help my kid," the mother said in the video. Later, she said, "Oh my God, what type of horrible country do I live in? Being white in this country, I should just shoot myself."
After a few minutes, others waiting there began to confront her, and an argument ensued.
"Your child clearly has more issues with you being his mother than him needing to see a doctor," a woman was heard saying to the mom. "You are extremely rude and racist."
The mom just replied, "You’re brown. You’re attacking me because I’m white." Police were called for a disturbance as the argument escalated, according to CBC News. After police spoke with those involved, the woman’s son was treated at the clinic.
Twitter continued the debate with hundreds of comments about whether the mom was justified in asking for a white doctor.
