A missing Pennsylvania teen was found in Mexico and a 45-year-old man arrested nearly two weeks after they allegedly ran away together, authorities said.
The missing teen, 16-year-old Amy Yu, was found "unharmed and in good health" on Saturday in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, and escorted back to her family in the U.S., Fox News reported.
The man she was traveling with, Kevin Esterly, was placed in custody by Mexican authorities and would be extradited to Pennsylvania.
A missing person's alert was released by police earlier in March, which noted that Yu and Kevin Esterly were likely traveling together.
Kevin Esterly was a family friend from church who would frequently sign Yu out of school without her parents' permission after the teen altered student records to say he was her father, CBS News noted.
According to the report, the teen often spent time with Kevin Esterly, a married father of four, and his own daughters and had even vacationed with him before.
Kevin Esterly's wife, Stacey Esterly, has spoken out, claiming that she and her husband had been having constant arguments over his relationship with Yu, The Allentown Morning Call reported.
Yu's mother, Miu Luu, told The Allentown Morning Call she was flooded with relief upon hearing her daughter had been located.
"For two weeks, I've had trouble sleeping and eating," she said, adding that she was "very happy."
Stacey Esterly's lawyer, John Waldron, told CBS News that his client's husband had been trying to contact her from jail but that she was not accepting his calls.
Once back in Pennsylvania, Kevin Esterly will face a charge of child custody interference.
