Mireya Briceno Kicked Out of Prom for Backless Dress Deemed Too Racy

By    |   Friday, 01 May 2015 01:12 PM EDT

Mireya Briceno of Michigan was kicked out of her senior prom last week for violating the school's dress code, but her mother and legions of online commenters say her dress was not racy, and have demanded answers from the school.

"They asked her to stand-up and turn around, so she turned around and they simply told her 'You’re in violation. You need to go home,'" Briceno's mother, Connie, told MLive.com. "She called me from the parking lot. She got in her car and started crying."

"I felt she was classy and elegant. She was perfect," she added.

Connie said no reason was given for the ejection, but did say that perhaps it had something to do with the backlessness of the dress or her daughter's exposed midriff on the sides.

"When you look in the mirror, there should be no skin showing around the midriff area," said Connie. "When her arms were down, you couldn’t see any skin."

Muskegon High School Principal Brad Perkins explained to Fox 17 on Monday that Mireya entered the prom wearing her boyfriend's jacket, and later took it off, exposing the dress code violation.

He said two other girls were sent home that night, and returned wearing clothing that fit the dress code.

Perkins also explained that television displays in the school showed looping videos explaining the dress code ahead of the big event.
