"The Mindy Project," a sitcom created by and starring Mindy Kaling that moved to Hulu two seasons ago, will have one more season before ending in 2018, Kaling announced in an interview Wednesday.
Kaling made the revelation in a Q&A session with Entertainment Weekly, and Hulu head of content Craig Erwich confirmed the end of the popular series.
When asked by EW about the show’s ending, Kaling said, "I mean this half-jokingly, but at a certain point it was like, I think she’s dated every man in Manhattan. 'Sex and the City' lasted for, what, six seasons with 10 episodes each? I don’t know that there’s been a show about a woman trying to find love in New York City that has lasted quite this long."
"The Mindy Project" has more than 100 episodes so far, and the number of episodes in the final season is still unknown.
Kaling continued, “We started this series when she was single, and now she’s married and has a kid and she has a stepdaughter, and it kind of felt like [a few] more episodes was all we needed to wind this down.”
Kaling told EW she already knows what she wants the last few minutes of the last episode to be like, but that there would be lots of twists and turns in between.
Fans on Twitter seemed happy the show would be back for a sixth season but unsure about letting go after that.
