Mike Tyson has revealed that he wanted to kill Evander Holyfield the infamous night he bit off part of the hall of famer's ear. The incident took place in June 1997, when the two legends found themselves in the ring together for their second boxing match of the WBA Heavyweight Championship. In an interview with sportscaster Jim Gray, Tyson revealed exactly what went through his mind the moment he sunk his teeth into Holyfield's ears.
"I bit him because I wanted to kill him," Tyson told Gray over the weekend during the Fox News special, "Talking to GOATs with Jim Gray." "I was really mad about my head being bumped and everything," he continued. "I really lost consciousness of the whole fight. It took me out of my fight plan and everything."
Looking back, Tyson said he had since taken accountability for his actions.
"Listen, good or bad, I’m not going to let anyone take my glory," he explained. "So, I’m going to confront everything that I have to confront … Hey listen, I done it. I got to handle the responsibility of it. That was my glory. And I took responsibility for it."
During the interview, Gray and Tyson also discussed whether or not he would do it all again. The heavyweight champion said it depended on the scenario.
"I hope not," Tyson responded. "I say, 'No, never ever again.' But I might do it again. Well if he does what he was doing to get bitten, I would bite him again. Yeah."
Tyson has made several shocking confessions in recent weeks. In an October interview, he admitted to hating Michael Jackson's guts and earlier this month confessed to cheating in drug tests.
During a recent podcast, the 54-year-old boxing legend revealed to UFC Vice President of Athlete Health and Performance Jeff Novitzky that he would use the "Whizzinator," which is a prosthetic penis filled with baby urine, to avoid testing positive for drugs.
"It was awesome, man," Tyson said. "I put my baby’s urine in it. And sometimes, one time I was using my wife’s and my wife was like 'Baby, you better not hope that it comes back pregnant or something.' And I said, 'Nah, so we ain’t gonna use you any more, we’re gonna use the kid.'"
