Mike Tyson spoke publicly for the first time on SiriusXM's OpieRadio this week about being sexually abused at age 7 by an "old man" who grabbed him as he was out walking.

The revelation, which Tyson made to Opie Hughes and Jim Norton, clearly shocked the show hosts, and MSN Sports called it a "not particularly smooth segment." One of the hosts even mumbled "awkward" at one point as the conversation lagged.

Tyson told the hosts that people would tell him how "great" he was, but they didn’t understand about poverty, and they didn’t know about the bullies or sexual abuse. The champion boxer said the incident happened one time, and that he was able to run away from the old man.

To a question on whether he "drastically changed after that day," Tyson responded, "I don’t know if I did or not. I don’t always remember. Maybe I do, maybe I don’t."

He also said he wasn't "embarrassed or ashamed" of what happened.

Many YouTube comments focused on the hosts' awkward handling of Tyson’s revelation.

"Guy shares something deeply personal and has a real moment, what does Opie do . . . 'Awkward huh guys?! Hur hur!' Come on Opie . . . Grow up dude. Glad Soder jumped in there to empathize," one person wrote.

"They looked at you Opie because it's your show and you're saying nothing and leaving dead air luckily Soder bailed you out," another wrote.

Others showed support for Tyson.

"Iron Mike talking the truth," one person said. "Maybe this is what made him the fighter he was."

Tyson's life has been one rife with controversy, Metro U.K. noted, with his name constantly in headlines. He spent three years in prison in 1992 for the rape of 18-year-old Desiree Washington.
