Mike Shumann's alleged involvement in a Warriors jacket theft has led to the benching of the TV sports anchor.
Shumann allegedly walked off with the jacket of Ralph Walker, who is the Warriors director of team security and Stephen Curry's personal security guard, Sports Illustrated noted.
Video footage reportedly caught the ABC7/KGO-TV anchor swiping the item after a practice last week in San Antonio, while leaving the AT&T Center.
Walker is a well-loved figure within the Warriors organization. So much so that Curry included the body guard in his award speech upon being named the league MVP in 2016, The San Francisco Chronicle noted.
"I've seen a lot of you the last three years," Curry said to Walker. "You're at every event, every practice, every game. You're our eyes when we don't have them, and we appreciate you putting yourself out there anytime we need you being there for us."
The alleged theft has dramatic implications for Shumann who, as a former wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers and longtime TV reporter, usually conducts interviews with the Warriors players as part of an agreement that the team has with KGO, ESPN noted.
Several Warriors players are upset by the incident and are now refusing to give interviews to the TV sports anchor.
A KGO spokesperson said in a statement that the allegations were being taken "very seriously" and that full investigations were being conducted, USA Today reported.
The TV sports anchor apologized to individual Warriors players however it was not enough to defuse the situation over the weekend.
Shumann was pulled from ABC7's postgame segment that followed the Warriors' Game 4 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday.
