Planned Parenthood Supporters Donating in Mike Pence's Name

In reaction to the election of Donald Trump and strongly pro-life Mike Pence, a movement is swelling to encourage donations to Planned Parenthood in Pence’s name.

Wanting to strike back at the conservative VP-elect in some way for his strong views against abortion and his defunding of Planned Parenthood in his home state of Indiana, artist Bethany Cosentino posted a screenshot to Instagram on Saturday with the suggestion. “You can make a donation to Planned Parenthood in Mike Pence’s name and he’ll receive the certificate of donation,” her post said.

The image has more than 13,000 likes and was quickly reposted by celebrities such as Amy Schumer and Amber Tamblyn, who both posted that they donated in this way. Other screenshots were also posted of similar donations.

Certificates of donation are sent to Pence’s office, but he does not get to deduct the donations from his taxes. The move is being hailed as a creative way to protest for those unhappy with the election results.

Planned Parenthood even thanked donors on Twitter:

Pence has said he wants to see Roe v. Wade, the ruling that legalized abortion, "sent to the ash heap of history."
