Vice President Mike Pence made the case for President Donald Trump’s first year in an article published by USA Today on Wednesday, with an extensive list of accomplishments that help “make America great again.”
Pence crunched the numbers and cited some interesting figures in his USA Today article.
The vice president said nearly 1.5 million new jobs have been created in the U.S. while the stock market has created nearly $5 trillion in wealth for pension, retirement and savings for citizens.
“The American economy is roaring,” he said, noting at least a three percent expansion for two quarters in a row.
According to Pence, the Trump administration has successfully unleashed American energy and ended the “war on coal,” while approving the Keystone and Dakota pipelines.
Pence also drew attention to the appointment of Justice Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. The conservative justice was nominated by President Trump and confirmed in April, per Time.
Gorsuch filled the seat of Antonin Scalia, who died in February 2016, and has been likened to his predecessor on many issues.
Pence cited Trump’s successes in the military, noting that the president has signed the largest increase in defense spending in nearly 10 years.
Earlier this year Trump commented on the proposed $54 billion defense spending hike, saying the “budget follows through on my promise of keeping America safe, keeping out terrorists, keeping out criminals and putting violent offenders behind bars or removing them from our country altogether,” Politico reported.
Pence noted that the U.S.’s NATO allies were contributing more to the common defense.
“ISIS is on the run, and its caliphate is crumbling,” Pence wrote in USA Today.
“It has been a year of accomplishments, and we’re just getting started. Before this year is out, we’ll pass historic tax cuts for the American people. And with President Trump’s leadership, I know: We will Make America Great Again.”
