Michael Moore, a liberal filmmaker who is no stranger to controversy, became involved in a spirited debate with “The View” co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck during an appearance on the morning talk show, reports
Syracuse.com.
During Moore’s guest appearance to promote his new book “Here Comes Trouble” he and Hasselbeck found themselves in a heated exchange over whether America should have brought Osama bin Laden to trial in the United States.
Moore adamantly argued that bin Laden should have been captured and returned to the United States for trial, comparing it to the trials at Nuremberg after World War II.
“I think that we did a very smart thing putting the Nazis on trial,” Moore said. “That was after the war was over,” Hasselbeck interjected.
“The war is over,” Moore said. “Michael, we’re still at war!” Hasselbeck shot back with.
Moore retorted saying that we are not still at war as the fight continued to become more heated.
“My point is that the way we show the world that we’re different is that we give even the most heinous person their day in court,” Moore argued, eliciting the ire of Hasselbeck who quickly shot back, “You’re telling me Osama bin Laden deserves a trial? Where? In New York City? Absolutely not! How dare — and why, because Casey Anthony’s trial went so well?”
The debate between the pair carried on until co-host Whoopi Goldberg interceded, calling for a commercial break.
