Michael Juskin, a 100-year-old New Jersey man with a history of domestic issues, allegedly killed his 88-year-old sleeping wife with an ax and then himself with a knife Monday.
Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli posted about the crime on Twitter.
Family members said Juskin suffered from dementia and that
sometimes he was lucid and other times he wasn’t, The North Jersey Record reported.
Authorities hadn’t determined a motive, and said Michael and Rosalia Juskin had a history of domestic issues.
Juskin's Elmwood Park neighbors told The Record that the couple kept to themselves but were often outside together, with him walking his dog and her working in the garden.
In a separate report,
The Record said police had been to the residence three times since 2012: in March 2012, when Juskin was found unstable and taken to a hospital; in Sept. 2013, when Rosalia reported that he was harassing her; and in January, when she said he had locked her in the basement in his confusion.
A relative, apparently the couple’s son,
found them inside the home and called police, CBS New York reported. He was not inside the home at the time of the violence.
