Mia Farrow has released a statement defending her children from "vicious rumors" doing the rounds on social media.
The actress and her family have received renewed attention following the release of HBO's "Allen v Farrow." The docuseries centers around Dylan Farrow's sexual abuse allegations against her adoptive father, famed movie director Woody Allen. Fueling online discussions was the release of a rare interview with Allen about the accusations. In a statement to Twitter, Farrow attempted to put various circulating rumors about her 14 kids to rest.
"My family means everything to me," Farrow wrote. "While I chose a career that placed me in the public arena, most of my children have elected to live very private lives. I respect each of their wishes, which is why I am selective in my social media posts."
Farrow went on to detail the pain she suffered from losing three of her children.
"Few families are perfect, and any parent who has suffered the loss of a child knows that pain is merciless and ceaseless. However, some vicious rumors based on untruths have appeared online concerning the lives of three of my children. To honor their memory, their children and every family that has dealt with the death of a child, I am posting a message."
Farrow explained that her daughter, Tam, passed away at 17 from an accidental overdose of prescription medication that she had been taking for "agonizing migraines" and a "heart ailment."
Her other daughter, Lark, died at 35 from complications of HIV/AIDS, which she contracted from a previous partner.
"Despite her illness she lived a fruitful and loving life with her children and longtime partner. She succumbed to her illness and died suddenly in the hospital on Christmas, in her partner's arms."
Farrow's "courageous" son, Thaddeus, died at 29 from suicide. He had been living "happily" with his partner and Farrow said they were even "anticipating a wedding" but the relationship ended abruptly, causing him to take his own life.
"Any other speculation about their deaths is to dishonor their lives and the lives of their children and loved ones," Farrow added. "I am grateful to be the mother of fourteen children who have blessed me with sixteen grandchildren," Farrow concluded. "Although we have known sorrow, our lives today are full of love and joy. Everyone has their own battle to fight; their own sorrows that gnaw. I send you my best hopes and my love."
Farrow's 11 other children include 51-year-old twins Matthew and Sascha Previn; Soon-Yi Previn, 50; Fletcher Previn, 47; Summer "Daisy" Previn, 46; Moses Farrow, 43; Dylan Farrow, 35; Ronan Farrow, 33; Frankie-Minh Farrow, 32; Isaiah Farrow, 29; and Quincy Farrow, 27, according to USA Today.
