MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry asked outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder if he would quack like a duck for her during a bizarre moment in their Sunday interview.
"You know, we call you 'The Duck,'" she told the AG. "We say you have a very sort of placid and even way of presenting, but you are just working for justice underneath. Would you quack for us?"
"Well, I’m not sure I’m going to do that," Holder responded, looking puzzled. "But I like the analogy," he added, politely.
Clips of the fawning interview were picked up by Fox News host Megyn Kelly, who, as a fellow journalist, was deeply embarrassed by the cringe-worthy stunt.
"How humiliating for her. Does she know how she just humiliated herself? Kelly asked guest host Howard Kurtz whilst clutching her head.
"I thought she was going to get down on one knee and proclaim her undying love for Eric Holder. It was like an 'SNL' skit!" he said.
"I've never seen anything like that! What was she doing?" Kelly laughed.
"Well, I guess if the attorney general of the United States had quacked it would have gone viral and everybody would have been high-fiving," Kurtz surmised.
Perry wasn't the only liberal journalist to come under fire this week for a fawning interview with the Obama administration. On Monday,
Politico's Jack Shafer laid into Vox.com for its "softball" interview with the president.
He said founders Ezra Klein and Matt Yglesias "are like two Roman curia cardinals who want us to believe their exclusive interview with the pope is on the level."
