Mel Gibson's look-a-like son is now an actor, taking on his first major role as Al Capone in the movie "Gangster Land," People magazine reported.
Milo Gibson, 27, had a small part in war movie "Hacksaw Ridge," which his father directed in one of Mel Gibson's big comebacks, People noted.
"We had a lot of fun, but it was a professional relationship," Milo Gibson told People. "It was amazing watching Mel direct."
The trailer for "Gangster Land" has already been viewed more than 300,000 times on YouTube since its release earlier this month.
It is a big change in the spotlight for the younger Gibson, the sixth of seven children Mel Gibson had with his ex-wife Robyn Denise Moore. He first worked as a private massage therapist and then an electrician, according to People.
"It's very scary to make that change," Milo Gibson said about changing careers, per People. "But one day it hit me that I don't want to turn 50 and regret not trying something I have a passion for."
W magazine wrote in May that Milo Gibson is also starring in "All the Devil's Men," which was filmed in London, and "Breaking & Exiting" an indie film. But he told People that it was "Gangster Land" that made him think of his father and his acting days.
"When I got offered the part it was kind of a no brainer," Milo Gibson told People. "I just thought it'd so much fun to jump into his shoes and be that kind of psychotic, nobody-can-touch-you type guy."
Mel Gibson, who became a star during the "Mad Max" and "Lethal Weapon" franchises, won Oscars for best director and best picture for "Braveheart" in 1996 and was nominated for another directing Academy Award for "Hacksaw Ridge" last year.
