Mekayla Diehl, Miss Indiana, Tweeted Up for not Being Crazy Skinny

By    |   Tuesday, 10 June 2014 11:22 AM EDT

Mekayla Diehl may not have won the Miss USA crown over the weekend but the Miss Indiana titleholder became something of a Twitter celebrity as women applauded her for showing off a "normal" bikini body.

The 25-year-old appeared in Sunday night's swimsuit competition flaunting a toned, curvy figure that looked much different from some of the rail-thin bodies of other contestants. But that's exactly what Twitter users appreciated.

"It's quite overwhelming, in a positive way," Diehl said of all the attention Monday on "Fox & Friends." "I wanted to just continue a healthy lifestyle and inspire others to go after their dreams. I never imagined that it would be in a swimsuit . . . I trained very hard for the body I have, but I didn't go to extremes, and I'm proud of that."

"I'm OK with 'normal,'" she later told the Indianapolis Star.
"Whatever defines 'normal.' I guess it's better than being weird."

Despite her much-tweeted swimsuit competition appearance, Diehl missed making the finals. The crown ultimately went to Miss Nevada Nia Sanchez.
