'Mein Kampf' Copies, Autographed by Hitler, Up for Auction

Two rare autographed copies of Adolf Hitler's manifesto "Mein Kampf" are up for auction until Thursday in Los Angeles.

"Fascinating two-volume set of Hitler's "Mein Kampf," each volume signed 'Adolf Hitler' by the Nazi Fuhrer following his release from prison for high treason, and shortly after his public speaking ban had been lifted," begins the description for "Lot#729" on the Nate D. Sanders auction site. "An ominously signed set of books that futilely warned the world of Hitler's intentions."

The site asks for a minimum bid of $20,000; no bid has been put forward so far. The auction ends at 5 p.m. PST on Thursday.

Volume II is a first-edition copy, while Volume I is a second edition, according to Nate D. Sanders. Both are signed by Hitler and are dedicated to Josef Bauer, an early Nazi party member who helped lead the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch bid to topple the Bavarian government.

Hitler wrote "Mein Kampf" ("My Struggle") while in prison, and blamed Germany's economic struggles on Jews and Marxists, among others. He came to power in 1933 and published millions of copies. In 1936, newlyweds received a copy as a gift from the state. The National Socialist Party supplied the funds, and Hitler collected the royalties, according to NDTV.
