A meat-cleavered NYPD detective was in serious condition after a wild altercation near bustling Penn Station on Thursday afternoon with a man in a "blind rage" who was oblivious to the shocks from a stun gun.
The suspect, Akram Joudeh, 32, was finally shot with real police bullets and was in critical condition, said the New York Daily News.
Police said Joudeh was enraged after a lock was put on a wheel of his illegally parked Nissan Sentra about a block from the busy terminal.
According to the Daily News, officers approached Joudeh about 5 p.m. as he tried to remove the boot from the vehicle. He produced the cleaver from his waistband and taunted the cops before running off, up a crowded street..
WNBC-TV said a police sergeant used his stun gun on Joudeh, but the weapon had no effect.
With cops in pursuit, Joudeh eventually mounted the front grill of an NYPD cruiser and an off-duty detective on his way home from work joined the struggle
As Det. Brian O'Donnell struggled with Joudeh he was hit in the lead with the cleaver, causing a six-inch gash from his temple to the jaw, said WNBC-TV.
Three officers then fired 18 shots at Joudeh, striking him numerous times.
Joudeh, O'Donnell and two other injured officers were taken to Bellevue Hospital, said the Daily News. O'Donnell was listed in serious condition, said WNBC-TV.
The Daily News said Joudeh was a drifter who has a long criminal record, including larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, criminal mischief, and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
He was arrested in Brooklyn back in July for weapons possession when police found a pair of knives in his vehicle.
