"Mean Girls" the musical is set for its run on Broadway in April, 2018 at the August Wilson Theatre with previews starting March 12.

The musical is based off Tina Fey's 2004 hit high school movie that starred Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams. Fey's husband, Jeff Richmond of "30 Rock" is providing the new music and lyrics for the show, and Casey Nicholaw of "The Book of Mormon" will direct, Entertainment Weekly reported.

"(The audience) will hopefully find that (this musical) has the DNA of the movie and is true to the spirit of it, but is also opened up in a lot of ways," Fey told "Entertainment Weekly. "I feel like all the music in our show is very catchy — like, I feel like you will walk out humming several songs. The songs are what make the show."

Before the show reaches Broadway, though, it will have a run at Washington D.C.'s National Theater from Oct. 31 to Dec. 3, The New York Times reported.

The cast will include Erika Henningsen in Lohan's character Cady Heron while Taylor Louderman plays McAdams's character Regina George, the Times said. Ashley Park will play Gretchen Wieners and Kate Rockwell will portray Karen Smith.

Fey gushed about the cast on "The Tonight Show," in May, telling host Jimmy Fallon, "They're like a bunch of baby Timberlakes. They can do everything!" according to Glamour.

Lorne Michaels, the creator of Fey's former employer "Saturday Night Live," is the musical's lead producer while Fey wrote the musical book, the Times reported.

"There are lots of things you can do better in a musical," Michaels told the Times. "The characters are fuller.

"The expectation is going to be really high for it. And we’re all devoted to it. We want it to be remarkable, and getting there is difficult," Michaels continued.

The cult classic teenager movie about a home-school girl trying to fit into high school made $86 million domestically and another $42 million overseas when it was released in 2004, according to Box Office Mojo.
