The new McDonald’s uniforms may have been designed by Bindu Rivas and Waraire Boswell, but many are calling them depressing and reminiscent of "Hunger Games" or "Star Wars" attire.

The uniforms are black and gray and include polo shirts, T-shirts, pants, and aprons. McDonald’s plans to have all of its 850,000 employees wear the new outfits, and they'll start this month.

Delish reported the idea was to focus on “comfort, fit, functionality, and contemporary professionalism.”

McDonald’s has switched up its uniforms several times over the years. In 1950, employees wore all white with hats reminiscent of sailors’ caps.

Designer Boswell, who worked in a California McDonald’s before he became a designer to stars such as Ellen Degeneres and Kobe Bryant, said he wanted to give employees “a greater level of confidence” with the uniform redesign, Fortune reported.

About 70 percent of employees liked the uniforms, McDonald’s reported.

“Individuality is important to McDonald’s restaurant employees,” a statement by McDonald’s read, according to Fortune. “The new collections were designed to bridge the gap between fashion and function, allowing for an easy transition from the restaurant to the social environment.”

Twitter wasn’t having any of it, and trashed the new uniforms soundly.
