A New Jersey mayor recently got so drunk at a township employee's house that he took off his pants and passed out in her bed, according to a report.
Mayor John Roth made the confession Wednesday after the emergence of an anonymous letter last week that detailed the incident and was signed by the "concerned employees of the township of Mahwah."
Roth told NorthJersey.com that he has since apologized to the unnamed employee, who has declined to comment.
No further details were available.
Roth was elected on Nov. 6, 2018, to succeed Bill Laforet on the same ballot that the former mayor was recalled from office.
Efforts for the recall against Laforet were launched by angry residents after he accused Ed Sinclair, the former Department of Public Works Director, of having pornography on his computer.
The allegations were outlined in an anonymous letter received by Roth. He fired Sinclair but the council reinstated him, according to NorthJersey.com.
Six months later, Sinclair died and his family filed a $60 million wrongful death lawsuit against Mahwah. They claimed the stress of the dispute contributed towards his passing away.
The lawsuit, which would have seen the township give up roughly $3 million in Green Acres funding, was settled and Mahwah did not have to cough up. Despite the ordeal, Laforet said he had "no regrets."
