Matt Lauer’s recent dinner at a Manhattan restaurant with a "Today" show producer who’s an old friend was thoroughly snooped on. That’s what they get for sitting in the middle of the room.
Former “Today” host Lauer, fired by NBC last November after being swept up in #MeToo-like claims, dined with senior producer Deborah Kosofsky and the two talked about his "summer plans," the New York Post's Page Six reported on Thursday, citing a “source.”
"They were in the middle of the room," a source told the tabloid. "They were talking about vacation spots." The source added that the two were overheard talking about Lauer moving away from the crowded Hamptons "to the mountains" for the summer.
Another source, though, claimed that Lauer and Kosofsky only discussed his children and did not talk about his departure from the Hamptons for the summer, where he has been staying since his firing, Page Six said.
One of the sources told the tabloid that Lauer and Kosofsky have "been good friends for 30 years." According to Washington Magazine, from Washington University in St. Louis, Kosofsky has served as a producer for the "Today" show since 2003.
Lauer's reported divorce details from estranged wife Annette Roque were recently revealed by Us Weekly, including that the former model will receive two homes the couple shared and a $20 million cash payout in lieu of child support.
The couple's relationship reached a breaking point at the height of the sexual misconduct charges against the longtime morning show host. Lauer, 60, and Roque, 51, have three children – Jack, 16; Romy, 14; and Thijs, 11.
An internal investigation of Lauer by NBC revealed that four women came forward to complain about Lauer's workplace behavior toward them, but the women told investigators they didn't directly tell "a manager or anyone else in a position of authority about their encounters with Lauer," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
