Reality television star Amy Roloff opened up about her separation from her husband Matt after 26 years of marriage on TLC's "Little People, Big World" on Tuesday.
The couple revealed the separation earlier this month. The split occurred around Thanksgiving, when
Matt moved out of the family home into a guest house on the property, People.com reported.

"We were definitely having issues and problems and stuff," Amy Roloff told her friends in the episode. "It's sad because we really don't have a plan. When you don't have a plan, it's not going to happen overnight. … To tell you the truth, it's like a death. You get numb; you don't know what to do. Going through all of this, it is like a grieving process because you have to slowly begin to let go."
Matt Roloff said on the show that their marital problems had been brewing for some time, and he sees the separation as a way to give "each other some space."
"Amy and I had a lot of tensions," he said. "So right around Thanksgiving, I thought I would move over to the bridal house for a little bit and we'll try that. Amy and I stuck it out for years and years when maybe we shouldn't have. I never quite felt at home in my own home so something needed to change."
"You can call it a separation, a trial separation if you want. It's more of giving each other some space," Matt Roloff continued.
Amy Roloff expressed her grief.
"I think what Matt and I failed to do over many years was to live together," Amy Roloff said. "It's not my choice for him to leave. I'm saddened by it. It's been 26 years."
