Martha Stewart is best known as a prominent businesswoman who established herself through a lifestyle brand that consists of cookbooks, cookware, and television shows, but there is a lot more to the 79-year-old, who celebrated her birthday on Aug. 3. According to Insider, Stewart worked on Wall Street for several years and was America's first self-made female billionaire. She also only sleeps four hours a day. Here are seven other things you probably did not know about Stewart, as listed by the outlet.

  1. She modeled to pay for her college tuition. Stewart started modeling at age 13 and used the money she earned to pay her way through college.
  2. She babysat for legendary baseball players. To earn some extra cash as a teen, Stewart babysat the children of baseball stars Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra.
  3. She has owned eight houses. Stewart once owned two Manhattan apartments, a Turkey Hill home in Westport, Connecticut, two houses in the Hamptons, a 153-acre farm in Bedford, New York, and her Maine estate, Skylands.
  4. She was convicted of three felony charges. In 2004, Stewart was convicted of three felony charges for lying about a stock sale. She spent five months in a minimum security prison and five months in home confinement.
  5. She has unique eating habits. Stewart is known to drink buttermilk straight out of the carton. She also likes to indulge in pickled herring and liverwurst.
  6. She has five siblings. Stewart is the second of six children and all four of her grandparents were immigrants from Poland.
  7. She ended her relationship with Sir Anthony Hopkins because she could not forget his role as Hannibal Lecter. Stewart confirmed the rumors in an interview with NPR, adding: "He's the most charming man, the most charming man. And I went out to dinner with him and then I went back and I saw his piano. He plays a piano and he has a lovely house. And I wanted to invite him to my house in Maine. I have this big old house in Maine. And I kept thinking, I don't know if I can do that."
