Mark Salling, who starred in “Glee,” was found dead of apparent suicide Tuesday morning near his home in Los Angeles.
TMZ reported 35-year-old Salling was found next to a riverbed close to his home in the Sunland-Tujunga neighborhood of Los Angeles. Although the manner of death was not yet known, Salling is thought to have hung himself.
The actor was waiting to be sentenced in March after a guilty plea for possession of child pornography and was expected to receive four to seven years in prison as part of a plea deal.
Salling was required to register as a sex offender and had to go into a treatment program. He also was prohibited from having any contact with minors under age 18; had to stay 100 feet away from schools, parks, public swimming pools, youth centers, playgrounds, and arcades; and was required to pay $50,000 in restitution to each victim, People reported.
A former girlfriend called police and reported the pornography in December 2015, resulting in Salling’s arrest. He was indicted in May 2016 but his trial was delayed because he sought new legal representation in June.
Salling had allegedly attempted suicide by cutting his wrists in August 2017, but his attorney denied the story when it was reported at the time, saying Salling was “physically fine” and was “spending his time atoning and working on himself,” TMZ reported. Sources said Salling had a psychiatric evaluation and spent time in a mental health facility after the attempt, according to TMZ.
