Mark LaMura, who played Mark Dalton on the ABC soap “All My Children,” died Monday at age 68 from lung cancer.
LaMura played the brother of Susan Lucci on the soap through the 1980s, and was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for the role in 1988, TV Line reported.
After leaving the role in the late 1980s, LaMura returned several times for guest stints on the show. His most notable storylines included trying to woo sister Erica (they didn’t know they were related) and struggling with a drug addiction, TV Line reported.
LaMura also appeared on “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” “L.A. Law,” “The Sopranos,” “30 Rock,” “Law and Order: SVU,” and “Damages,” People reported.
LaMura said he didn’t love acting on the soap opera, but respected the amount of work it took. “To be fair: the writers have to write an hour’s worth of story every day. The director has to shoot it, the actors have to learn ‘all them words’ the night before,” he said, People reported.
Susan Lucci shared her sorrow at losing her on-screen “brother” on Instagram.
"How can this be? I just received the shocking and deeply saddening news that wonderful Mark LaMura has passed away! Mark played my brother Mark on All My Children — he was such a talented and accomplished actor/ a bright and charming presence in all our AMC lives — and a really great guy. Mark was loved and he will be missed! RIP, my friend," said Lucci.
